  • Help Me... I would like to buy VRay for Sketchup

Hi I am a regular 3ds Max VRay user and I would like to buy VRay for Sketchup (along with the Sketchup Pro 7.1 for my PC), but before that I would like to ask for community's assistance regarding some issues, which I don't know whether if everyone is experiencing the same or is it just me. Currently on my Laptop, I am using Sketchup 7.1 pro (licensed) and have just downloaded and tried VfSU version 1.48.66 (newest) and version 1.05.30 (previous), while on my PC, I am using Sketchup 7.1 pro (not licensed, 8 hours trial) and same VfSU version as to my laptop. From my trial and error, here's the list of issue I would like to address:

Regarding the option from right clicking, I notice that when comparing to the Sketchup+VfSU that Jorge Barrero used (I saw all his pdf guide)

to the Sketchup+VfSU that I downloaded

Mine don't have the "V-ray for Sketchup" when I right clicked on any objects. Here's another issue

Regarding the V-Ray plugin pulldown menu, here's the comparation to the Sketchup+VfSU that Jorge Barrero used

to the Sketchup+VfSU that I downloaded

Mine is just the simple menu of "V-Ray for Sketchup", which drop down into "Option, Material Editor, & Render" instead of the full options like the one that Jorge Barrero has.

Other than the issue mentioned above, others have been answered in many threads that i've browsed through (such as the 'low thread priority' option in the Global Switches render setting)

These are the issues that I found which worries me if I were to buy full Sketchup Pro 7.1 Version plus the VfSU (whichever version that is fully functional). Can someone please tell me if anyone is experiencing the same issue, or is using the Sketchup Pro 7.1 trial version will result in the issues mentioned above while using Sketchup Pro 7.1 licensed version will not? Or is there a difference between installing VfSU for Sketchup to installing VfSU for Sketchup Pro? Is using the VfSU academic version the main reason issues above happened compared to VfSU commercial version, or is the idea of using VfSU demo version compared to bought+licensed version the reason why, regardless of academic or commercial version? I must know!

I hope somebody can help me as I'm worried, because I'm just a college student in interior design with as much desire in learning Sketchup + VfSU that the money I have now for buying the license for those came from me begging to my parents :'(

And I am looking forward to learning from all of you, as so far I've seen, you're all awesome in 3D

    Thank you and best regards,

That first menu screenshot is from the very first VfSU. That is out of date - it was when VfSU didn't autosync materials. Sounds like you got an outdated manual.

Plugins menu: this is not related to VfSU. That is third party plugins made by lots of various people.
    Good resources for Plugins:

VfSU works just the same on SketchUp Free and it does on SketchUp Pro. It works no better or worse on any version.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Thank you very much, Thomthom. Now I can spend the money on the VfSU without any worries at all. Thanks a lot and have a nice day!
