Re: why are the new versions so slow?
So you're saying 1.49.84 is slow or faster?

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
There is no VfSU "1.49.84".
The very first version of VfSU said "1.49.84" in the VFB when you added the render time. But that is not a reference to the version of the VfSU plugin. (Maybe it's the V-Ray core - I dunno. I think Devin said it was a useless number that didn't mean anything.)
The very first VfSU version did parse very fast - but that was because it was parsing the model wrong. The two service releases (1.00.74 and 1.05.30) after the original had a longer parsing time, but they where parsing the model correctly.
The latest version, 1.48.66 has improved parsing time over the past previous, but maybe not over the very first. But the bottom line here is that the first edition parsed the scene incorrectly. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

well yeah the core number, but why was it parsing wrong? i dnt get that part. it renders exactly in the amount of time anyone wud want it to. the newer versions dnt even budge sometimes wen am on a larger model. i have tried them both and the parsing time is way too long!! do you guys think that it maybe my operating system? am using windows 7 ultimate on a acer 4420.

Yes - the parsing time is longer in the newer versions.
How large are "a large model"? (Face, edge, group and component count?)
How long time does it spend? Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
It is indeed true that our 1.0 release was blazing fast due to some major flaws in the way we parsed the Sketchup scene. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. Basic scenes worked fine in our 1.0 release for the most part. If you were just using a couple basic materials and a really basic scene with no groups of components (I forget exactly how the bug worked), you would probably be perfectly fine. As soon as you start adding some major complexity to the scene though, huge chunks of geometry would vanish, materials would get wacky... the list goes on. There was a major slowdown in the next release 1.05.30, because in that release we reworked the way we sorted through the SketchUp scene, so we would be sure that the scene would render as expected. Although significantly slower than the previous version, it would be accurate, that was our goal. In this release, we wanted to cut down the pre processing time where we sort through the scene, and also improve our ability to grab the correct geometry in the scene. Benchmarks show that 1.48.66 is quite a bit faster than our 1.05.30 version. There are some issues with this latest release, because we rewrote our plugin from the ground up, to ensure that our plugin was able to be expanded upon, fixed, and customized in a much more efficient manner. We are still working out a few bugs, and should release an update in the near future to address these issues.Best regards,

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
usually my models are up to the 50mb mark, and so far using the 1.0 version hasn't caused one single problem, no vanishings or anything, its just perfect!! and it works, i love the way the material editor works and controls stuff, i just would love the extra features and i think its best if the speed of these newer versions could match that of version 1.0 because on my deadlines i simply do not have the time to be waiting for anything. thats why i switched to vray. I thought it was amazing, i still think it is, but am just not willing to sacrifice and entire day setting up a model then waiting for it to render. i need some help in posting my settings tho, am working on it.

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
If you can work around the bugs, then yes, the 1.0 version isn't really bad at all. That's why we released it. It IS full of bugs though, dancing around them doesn't change that. If you're happy with that version, by all means continue to use it. Future versions of our plugin will likely never achieve the same speed (between clicking render and having the VFB pop up) that our broken 1.0 version had, but that's because we do it correctly now.Best regards,

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
Hi Devin,
I noticed that with the v1.05.30 the parsing time increasing with the number of materials in the scene. Why is that?

Re: why are the new versions so slow?
40th - I guess because the scene is more complex? I haven't looked at that old version in a very very long time, so I really can't say. We do things differently in the latest release.
Skurl - Right now you're capped at 2gb of ram usage for SketchUp (you can make it higher if you feel adventurous, but not above 4gb). The faster the processor, and the more cores it has, the better. The graphics card doesn't effect V-Ray at all, so I'd only worry about whatever SketchUp's recommendation is for that. That's about it.Best regards,
