  • V-ray sketch up starter manual capability with the updated V-ray 1.48.83

    Hey,

I am farely new to using V-ray with Sketch up 7 and I need some help already argh... I downloaded the starting manual (90 pages) for V-ray in Sketch up tutorial and also the scenes that belong to that specific manual. But I already get stuck in the first rendering of the image with the 3 simple chairs. My first rendering is just a lot brighter from the expected "gray tone image" and I didn't even touch the settings yet. Is there maybe a compability problem between the scenes and the versions of V-ray you posses, since I can see that this manual was written for an earlier version of V-ray?

    Kind regards,

    Mile

just like me 2 months ago, its the camera settings, ur maybe using default camera with environment sky enabled, in the environment rollout just check the capital M and from the drop down list that appears set it to none and see what happens, do this for both the M, the capital M should now look like common m when u go to the environment rollout.

The reason for that brightness basically is that in our old product the default light was a regular direct light, while in this new build the default light is a real sun, thus you have to use the physical camera to control the exposure of the default light too. We try to mimic the real live sun and the sun in real live is very bright, so we need the physical camera. The manual also is very old and not always fix the new workflow.

If you enable the physical camera and use below value you can get a similar result as the manual.

              Shutter speed - 800
              F Number- 8
              Film Speed -100

              Vignetting - off

                Fernando,
Thank you for your instruction. The result is awesome same as the manual.

I have two questions, firstly, how can I render an open scene without a shadow, I want to render my house from top view without a ceiling, just want to render for basic presentation and secondly, will be there a new manual for the new vray in future?

Sorry I am very new to vray.

                Regards,

I made a video tutorial showing how to hide the ceiling and get the same interior illumination without the hard shadow produced by the sun.

I am also new on this and after having spend 2 hours trying to complete the first assignment of the manual I stumbled across this thread. I have now altered my physical camera settings but still I am having a bit of trouble. After altering the environment settings ("The color is changed to light blue of R250, G252, B255, which is very close to white."), when I hit render I get the image as seen below. For this, I have altered the "M"-settings after both GI Color and BG Color to "None", seeing as a small "m" is represented in the image in the manual. I believe that what was supposed to happen here is that the environment color texture gets overriden with the color specified in the box, and that this color should be displayed in the render. What happens in my case seems to be that no light whatsoever is detected and that the scene remains dark with only the faint silhouettes of the chairs visible. Any ideas as to what I do wrong?
I am using Sketch Up version 6.4.112 (the newer version has some trouble with guides, which I so desperately cling on to, not appearing) and V-ray version 1.48.83 30-day-trial on a Windows XP Profesional based system with Service Pack 3.
