Shadow intensity and hard edges

Can some one help me pleas.
How can i mak the shadow less intensity and the edges not hard?
I want to edges to be brighten at the and?

If you are using the sun go to the sun properties and increase the size. If you are not using the sun, Can you be more specific?

I`m using sketchup sun. In Sketchup shadow settings i turn the light down but it dont works dont no why???

Steps
1. Click on the second icon in the V-Ray toolbar (V-Ray options)
2. Go to "Environment" tab
3. Click on the big "M" near GI. You should have the sky as your mapping type.
4. There is a setting called "Size". This optiion control the size of the sun. Larger values produce blurry shadows, while a value of 1 produce a sharp shadow. So increase the size value.
5. click "OK"
