  • New version of V-Ray for SketchUp has been released! 1.48.89

    Hello everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that the latest update 1.48.89 has made it past the beta testing stages, and is available for everyone on our product download page: Get it now!

After you have used this version for a while, we would like to hear what you have to say about it! Even if you've never used the product before, and this is the first time you've used it. You will be able to change your vote, and this poll will be active for the next 30 days. That should give everyone an entire demo period to try out the product. Of course you don't have to vote, we just are doing this so we know where we stand with this version. Your input is appreciated

There have been about 30 changes made since 1.48.83, check the change log for more details:
    Change Log:

    ----------
    1.48.89
    ----------
    Fixes:
    - Fixed invalid output image path issue that would cause a blank render
    - Fixed issue that caused our gamma settings to be ignored in the material/texture preview renders

    Changes:
    - Made sure that our memory map was getting closed regardless of situation
    ______________________________________________
    ----------
    1.48.88
    ----------
    Fixes:
    - Switched over to use memory-mapped files when parsing scenes. This should make it so some of the larger scenes that previously failed to render will now work
    - Glossy reflections and bump map now work together properly
    - Default lights can be enabled with other lights in scene now.
    - Sketchup embedded textures show in previews now
    - Material picker handler doesn't pick mats if you hit cancel now.
    - Fixed problem with sphere plugin that caused material previews to not show displacement properly

    Changes:
    - When maps are set, the button changes color to make it more obvious
    ______________________________________________
    ----------
    1.48.87
    ----------
    Fixes:
    - Fixed a logic error in some of the render plugin parameters that caused a memory leak
    - Fixed an issue that caused the Light Cache layout to not show properly if it was both primary and secondary engine
    - Fixed problem that caused importing materials to fail if the new material has a differet name than the material you were importing into

    Changes:
    - Added "Cast shadows" option to default material. This specifies whether or not the material will cast shadows
    - Added "Only visible in secondary" option to default material. This makes it possible to have a material only show up in reflections or refractions
    - Added "ID Color" to default material. This color allows you to set what color will show up in the Material ID VFB render channel
    - Modified the way the "Options" panel in our default material UI looks to accomodate new options
    ______________________________________________
    ----------
    1.48.86
    ----------

    - Fixed issue that made license utility not get launched on Leopard and Tiger OSX
    - Fixed problem that could occur when all layers were removed and adding new layers would be disconnected from the material
    - Made a slight modification to the Toon material that should make it so it doesn't get slower when the line width is bigger
    ______________________________________________
    ----------
    1.48.85
    ----------
    Fixes:
    - Fixed a problem that made it so VfS couldn't be loaded on Leopard or Tiger OSX
    - Fixed issues related to the changing of installation paths for side-by-side VfS and VfR installations
    - Fixed issue that could arise if you used Google's component warehouse and grabbed two components with the same name
    - Fixed some issues that caused importing images to not work
    - Fixed problems related to two side materials being loaded / saved into our scenes
    - Fixed some issues related to our file-searching algorithm
    - Fixed it so the aspect ratio lock button will be set correctly when loading scenes
    - Fixed issue in DRSpawner that could cause it to render black
    - Fixed a problem that made it so the UI necessary to save Photon Maps was hidden
    - The file extensions for the gi maps should be filled in correctly when you go to save them out

Re: New version of V-Ray for SketchUp has been released! 1.48.89

I want to know if this version fixes the majority of bugs regarding the Material Editor and the scenes created using 1.05.30. That's one of the major points that I'm not upgrading my 1.05.30, since I need the full retro-compatibility from the new version to the olders (at least until 1.05.30).

Allright! Good work Devin and team!

I have one question. I have been using a free demo version. I am about to purchase a license. When it asks me what I would like to do with my serial number....which option should I choose?

1)Add to my existing serial number
2)Create one new unique serial number
3)create serial number for each product

SHINKAKASHI- I believe that old scene compatibility issues have been resolved. I haven't messed with materials in a bit, but I think a majority of the issues were resolved, if not all of them.

ERIC@NEEL- Right, we took it out because it was slowing down renders to a crawl. If the render progress window is a make or break feature... then I guess stick to the old 1.05.30 version? We will add it back in to the product once we find a way to add it in there without a slowdown. A status update isn't worth a slow render.

ZACHARY- Depends on how many seats you're buying. If you want to set up a floating license server that can serve out licenses to many machines, it would probably be easier to just have one serial number with multiple activations. If you are going to have the license served out locally for each machine you install the product on, you probably will want a separate serial number for each seat you're purchasing.

Zachery... the forums are for users to help users, sometimes ASGvis employees will reply to some posts, but it's definitely not on our priority list. If you need support, contact our support department. Looks like it's a licensing issue, so you should probably contact authorizations@asgvis.com. Didn't you have our product installed and working before? Why were you reinstalling?

                Hi Devin

The issues I had with licensing were with my demo version. I've gone commercial, and seem to be having a similar bug.

I know the forums are for everyone's benefit...and not just my own licensing issues. I just needed some help on the quick and was trying EVERY option.

Authorizations has been very responsive, and it seems I have a rare bug. Crossing my fingers, can't wait to get my license up an running.

Re: New version of V-Ray for SketchUp has been released! 1.48.89

Few questions about new Vfs release:
                    1. Does it matter what SU version to use. (e.g. Su v.7.1.4871 or v.7.1.6860)?
The reason I'm asking is cause I use 7.1.48 and I want to know if the newer SU version is more efficient with vray.
                    2. In previous VFS versions there were problem rendering nested groups. Does this version is different on this metter, and if so what vfs 'understands' groups or components?

40th - 1. It should work, it doesn't work with the lastest beta version of sketchup 8 yet, but we're planning on resolving that as soon as we can. 2. Newer versions of SketchUp aren't more efficient. Same stupid bugs, same lame api, same enormous limitiations... I don't really forsee SketchUp being more efficient in terms of how they communicate with us, until they completely rewrite their app, which isn't likely. Nested group issues were resolved on our end by just figuring out what was causing the bug. I think our plugin works with SU6 still as well, but we don't officially support it due to the major difference between SU6 and SU7 on OSX.
                      Best regards,

                        Dkendig,
Thanks for your reply. So now, with the v.1.48.89 the groups and components respond the same to vfs demands. for instance, which scene's parsing time will be shorter, a scene with thousand groups or a scene with a thousand components? Or it doesn't matter?

Re: New version of V-Ray for SketchUp has been released! 1.48.89

According to what I've seen, and what our other testers have said, the parsing time should be the same in 1.48.89. This should have been the case with 1.48.66 as well. I'm guessing you haven't touched the latest version yet? I understand the concern about upgrading, you're trading some of the old bugs that you know how to work around, for new bugs that are unknown or different, but in our opinion, the latest version is much better than the 1.05.30 version. If you'd like to give it a try, upgrading to the latest version is free, or if you want to try it out on a different computer than the one you currently have your license on, you can demo the latest version for 30 days. We could always use more people on our testing team too, letting us know what we need to change and how the current changes are working out.
                          Best regards,

Yes, that's what I did. I've installed the 1.48.89 on my laptop and I'm trying it out. I like the new features like AO,more cameras whith the phys. cam, IES light, Region render, the new material preview. I would love to feedback on this vfs. Where's the proper place to write my feedback?

I'm glad to hear you like it so far. We are working on making it better, so we would love to hear any feedback you may have. The place we look for the most up to date feedback, is the beta testing forums. The beta testers get their hands on builds before anyone else, so usually they're going to be the ones that post details about new bugs or issues they come across. If you'd like to join that group, I can add you to it real quick.

Otherwise, just post the bugs you come across on the vfs bugs forum: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?board=11.0 and general feedback in the vfs general forum: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?board=10.0

Thanks for giving the latest version a try, we hope you won't be disappointed.
                              Best regards,
