  • Dirt Material

So when I try to create a dirt material, I select the TexDirt within the Diffuse layer. Inside the TexDirt menu, I select my black and white materials. I continue through the process and click ok.

Once completed, if I click on the "M" again, it automatically changes it back to TexBitmap. I can not get the TexDirt to apply and remain. Is this a bug? Is there a fix?

    Thanks,

    Crisp

Hmm, that sounds like an issue we fixed in one of our latest update. What version are you using? Maybe I have the current release version confused with a beta or development version.

The latest version is 1.48.89, correct? How do I check if this is the version I am running? The tab in the options menu is no longer there.

        Re: Dirt Material

Ok, so the latest version corrects this issue. I can now apply the TexDirt to a material and have the dirt appear in a rendering.

If I select a TexBitmap as my white color, it should appear as the texture of the material, correct? If I use a cobble stone texture as the white color, all I get in SketchUp is a gray material. The pattern is lost when rendered. I've scaled the cobble stone texture to see if it was just really small and this isn't the case.

        What am I missing?

          Re: Dirt Material

I thought that this was expected behavior, and that the issue was related to the bitmap not showing up int he viewport. Actually this still may be the case. I thought that we didn't look for texBitmaps any more than 1 level deep... apparently we do! So I'm happy to see that.

There was a bug that we fixed recently, after .89 was released. Maybe it's related to that bug. We don't have a beta version with that change in it yet, 89 is still the latest beta and public build. I'll let you know what we can find.

            Re: Dirt Material

Thank you. I was curious because I received the news letter for the latest video, Dirt Part II. The image that is posted in the news letter shows a rough beat up brick texture that is really sweet. But the video never gets to the point where the brick texture is applied. It only goes over the dirt texture applications.

I was just looking for a way to add the texture to a material instead of it just being a solid color.

            Thanks again.

yeah, you'll be able to do that once we put this next fix out there. It works fine on my machine which already has the changes applied.

This is the scene that I use to create the dirt on a brick wall. I hope this can help you.

                  Re: Dirt Material

Awesome! That helps out huge. I was missing the 3rd diffuse layer as the brick texture and applying the pure white color to the transparency map.

                  Thanks!

                    Re: Dirt Material

Yup, we use the first diffuse layer we find for a material. So whatever is the topmost diffuse layer will be what is represented in the SketchUp viewport.
