  • organic shape - flat looking....

    Hi,

my problem -for today :P - is that the organic shape looks very flat.

i am not using any physical camera
    no sun-sky light
    ambient occlusion on
    v ray plane is on

I am testing now with some noising on the material layer for the organic shape....but it is still very flat!

is there anything that I can do for obtain a better feeling for the organic shape?

    Thank you very much

    Serra

    p.s.
I wound´t like to add any lights...

try adding a slight reflection layer.

    Add a reflection layer
    no fresnel
make the reflection color close to your object color

    highlight reflection
    0.55
    glossy reflection
    0.55

    subdivisions
    20

    shader
    ward

You should get something that looks like this.

You can play around with the values if you want it to look flatter (decrease) or if you want it to look more metallic (increase).

. . . also - the image you show has no sun, only global illumination. If you get some sunlight on it, then the sun/shade will help to define the form.

UnicornPlanner: I can see some shadowing in your pics... I am working only with GI...trying to obtain something like that

dcauldwell: I would like to use only GI.

I am testing some more materials... some others ideas are welcome

          thank you

I think the example you are trying to emulate uses 'ambient occlusion' to get that effect (out of my league!)

If you just have a gentle slope, you aren't going to see much definition in your render. If you only use GI, without an HDR texture used for GI, or the Physical Sun/Sky, you won't get much definition in the render, because everything will just sort of be lit in an average way. You need to either have detail in your model so Ambient Occlusion, as dcauldwell metioned, can help define edges better, or you need to have more complex lighting. Adding a reflection layer can help some, but it won't get the clay render you're looking for, that's going to be achieved through proper lighting and/or Ambient Occlusion.

or maybe adding a dirt map for more details?

yeah, dirt map could help too.
