  • water doesnt show ripples - displacement issues

not matter what tutorial or material i import.... EVERYtime i try and have some turbulant water 'like for a pool' ... i only get flat glass types of water.

i've changed the displacement from 1-6 in the options tab.... are there other settings that i need to make to show "noise" in the water.??? I'm totally lost and flagergasted.

    Thanks,
    Glenny

Which units is set in you scene? the value of the displacement depends on that, i.e. if you use cm then value of 1 in displacement multiplier will be 1cm.

units are standard... architecture - inches, feet etc.

if you don't have a diffuse texture on the material, UVs won't be properly generated for the surface (this is something silly SketchUp does). Try following what I posted here: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=8790.0

Re: water doesnt show ripples - displacement issues

So I just opened up a drawing in the architecture template (inches and feet) and used settings from about 4 different tutorials and STILL no ripples.... no displacement.... ???

and i have even imported TONS of Vray water mats and they also will not show any texture for the water.

think i figured it out.... i simply took the face that was the water... made a component out of it and then extruded it a foot or two... viola! worked

if you want the surface of the water to have any sort of ripple or wave to it though, you'll want to follow what I said in that other post. SketchUp's UV system is just silly.

You have to group the face with water material and then it will be working. Thats all.
