  • V-Ray and SketchUp 8

    Hey all,

Just a quick word on SketchUp 8 and V-Ray. Our testing indicates that it does not work at all with Mac and that Windows users can install it by changing the 7 in the installation path to an 8 during install. Aside from a few quick renders on the Windows side this is all the testing we have been able to do.

If anyone else is using this setup please take a moment to let us know if you encountered any problems or any relevant info you may have.

    Re: V-Ray and SketchUp 8

    Hi

I am having problems with SketchUp Pro 8 crashing on startup, just after the default template is selected. This happens after installing V-Ray for SketchUp 1.48.89

After uninstalling it, SketchUp is fine

Is there a fix to this problem? as I really need to get some decent renders done!

Are there any error messages, or does SketchUp immediately crash? Also, did you just upgrade from 1.05.30 to 1.48.89? When upgrading from 1.05.30, you must run the uninstaller manually from add/remove programs. Either way, I suggest completely uninstalling V-Ray for SketchUp from your machine, (especially if there are two versions installed at the moment) restart the computer, and then install 1.48.89. If that still does not work, please let us know what error messages you're getting when SketchUp loads.

            Re: V-Ray and SketchUp 8

            Hi, Thanks for the suggestions.
No error messages, SketchUp flicks out just after the default template page is displayed.
I have already uninstalled V-ray and all flavours of it... it's the only way I can get SketchUp to start and work.
How can I get a copy of the old V-Ray (1.05.30) to see if I have any problems with that?
Thanks for your help in advance.

                Re: V-Ray and SketchUp 8

Has anyone else had any issues with V-Ray on SketchUp 8?

I'm starting to get those annoying "I worked on this at home, but I had to save it as a SketchUp 7 version so we could work on it in the office" comments from my co-workers, hinting that we should update the software. But, I don't want to make the upgrade to all the computers and later find out that V-Ray no longer works properly.
                I am currently using V-Ray 1.49.01.

                      Re: V-Ray and SketchUp 8

my office brought me a shinny new iMac today, and the tech guy set it all up without me thinking about the issue with su8, so when I fired it up I was expecting a no show, but it worked fine. He downloaded .89 so I'm not sure if that has any relevance.

                        Re: V-Ray and SketchUp 8

Our current public version doesn't work with SU8 on OSX. Our current beta does. It will work with SU8 in the next public release on OSX. The current version works fine with SketchUp 8 on Windows.

Whenever I download objects from the 3D Warehouse they come in WAY too big, is there any way i can resize them, and without downloading anything extra?

Either the components you download is modelled to the wrong scale (some in the warehouse are - but not all). Or if you find that all are - then it'd sound like your model is in a incorrect scale.

As to resizing - you're looking for something other than the Scale tool? ???

well most of the time, both are at right scale - the warehouse model and the end user who is downloading it. it is just that they are using different measuring system. One may be in foot-inches while other using metric system of measurements. In that case also, when you import, it comes at wrong scale.
