Increase the background multiplier until it's white in the final render (between 10 and 50 usually does it). A white piece of paper in a dark room appears black, a black piece of paper held under a football field floodlight would look blinding white- it's the same principle with rendering: a white background which has too little luminance (controlled by the multiplier) will appear black or grey depending on camera settings.
