  • Error Log

    Hi all,

I am trying to render a scene and am getting an error message that says Vray can't render and that I should check the 'Error Log'. Buggered if I know where to find the error log.

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

    Cheers.....Scotty

    Re: Error Log

Tick the "Override materials" checkbox under the Global Switches roll-out and try rendering again. If it starts rendering then there's something wrong with one or more of your materials, most likely a probelm with texture maps (for example SU can sometimes mistakenly identify gif files as jpgs, especially for 3D Warehouse comps).

You'll need to go through all your materials and check all the bitmaps (including bumps, reflection and displacement maps) as well as any bitmaps in the visopt environment roll-out. Usually reassigning all maps fixes this rare problem, but I have one stubborn skp file which refuses to render despite carrying out all the above actions.

EDIT: forgot to say that if you're using the old version of VfSU (1.05.30 or older) and no matter what you try the file still refuses to render you can erase/resest all VfSU attributes from a skp file by taking advantage of a little VfSU bug. Save out all your material vismats and the visopt, then select File>New in SU and click on "Cancel". The screen will flicker for a few seconds and all VfSU attributes will be deleted from that skp so you can start afresh by reassiging vismats and the visopt. It's quicker to do this than it is to attempt to copy skp geometry and scenes to a fresh skp file and the reassign VfSU stuff.

      Re: Error Log

      Hi,

thanks for the suggestions. I have done as you suggested and it now renders sometimes. I have had the same error message, I have achieved a full render and I have rendered with no materials.

When you say "check all bitmaps", what do you mean? I have checked and all are suitable file types. Is there something else I should do?

      Cheers....Scotty

        Re: Error Log

If any of the bitmaps are from unknown sources (esp 3D Warehouse models) you may need to open them in Photoshop and check that they're RGB. It was years ago I came across this issue, but if I remember correctly one cause was that a bitmap was Indexed Color or Lab Color format. I'm not sure how VfSU is setup, but RGB is a safe bet.
