I have a problem with the gradient on the wall of this image (I just did a bit of contrast with Photoshop)

    here my setting:
    image sampler
    ADAPTIVE SUB.:
    min rate 2
    max rate 2

    irradiance Map
    min rate -2,
    max rate 0
    HSph. Sbdvs 100,
    Samles 100

    I am using only GI

as materials I am just using plain colors

I hope someone can help me!

    thx!

        Re: smooth gradient ??? help

        try changing your

        ADAPTIVE SUB.:
        min rate 2
        max rate 2

        to

        min rate : -4 or -3
        max rate: -1 or -2

        I think that might help.....

          Re: smooth gradient ??? help

          Folks,
interestingly, there's a big difference between the gradients displayed in VFB, Windows preview and Photoshop.
I'm a Rhino user, and with VfR it displays best in the render window. As soon as I save it to any 8-bit format, I'll get those visible gradient steps.

          So, here's my method:
          - Save as .hdr
          - Open in Photoshop, correct Gamma (Image --> Adjustments --> Exposure) to .4545
          - Convert to 8-bit
          - Save as .png

You'll see that the step areas have been transformed to pixel clouds and look way smoother.
If you so wish, you can adjust the pixelated gradient with the Smart Blur tool.

          Hope that helps
          Cheers,
          Matt
