  • Broken a record?

    Hi all,

Just wondering if I am entitled to claim a record for the most reads of a post in this forum without getting an answer. I have broken the ton and now at 110 views for my post of light beams. Given the quality of the support given through ASGVIS forums, usually topics are answered very quickly, this must be a world record.

I assume the answer is that it isn't possible to recreate light (indirect or direct) beams in a scene. Just wondering if someone could confirm this.

    Cheers....Scotty

that's right. no volumetric lighting in vray for SU yet. you probably haven't recieved a reply because that question has been asked numerous times by other users in the past.

      Probitas,

      thanks for the answer.

Just note, though, that because a question was asked some time ago doesn't mean that things haven't changed!!

I saw a post by Dalomar in Sept 2008 that said "The "beams" of light that your referring to are actually light that is caught by particles in the atmosphere. In the digital world, there isn't really any air, so you need something referred to as volumetric affects which allows this to be simulated. At the moment we don't have anything like this working in vfsu, but it is a possibility and is on the wish list."

I think it is fair to ask, two years after it was put on the wishlist, whether that feature is now available!!! I think it would have been useful if one of the guys had given us all an update!! Don't you?

      Cheers....Scotty

You get a mudkip as your prize!

Sorry that we don't have a lot more features in this version. We weren't planning on adding any features at all in this release, because the main goal of this release was to completely rewrite our plugin and have it behave exactly as it did in 1.05.30. Then once the rewrite was working properly, we were planning on adding new features.

          Devin,

thanks for the prize. It is much appreciated and received with pride!! My 3 yo daughter will be very impressed.

Please do not apologise. Mine was a simple query as to whether a feature was available. The fact that it isn't yet is no big deal. VfSU is still fantastic. You guys should be congratulated. Keep up the great work!!

          Cheers.....Scotty
