Need help with lighting

I'm starting to learn V-ray, but there's something bugging me. Why aren't my rectangular lights, or any lights for that matter, intermingling with my shadows? Here is a picture, there is a large double sided rectangular light above the cube, but it doesn't affect the shadows projected from it no matter what I do. Is there something in the settings that I haven't turned on?

Try turning the environment off to see if your light is showing up. Your light might not be bright enough to show up against the (default) sunlight, so you need to play with the power settings of the light.

If you are using the physical camera you have to a very hight light multiplier. Low multiplier is like turn on a flash light at noon, you will not see any light.
