  • Cannot render Chairs-Original.skp correctly

I just started with V-Ray and I'm trying to go through the Manual but I cannot render Chairs-Original.skp example correctly. The result is overexposed.

Is it possible the plug-in is shipped with different defaults? Can somebody post visopt file with correct settings?

    Thanks.

We have different default values on our new build, maybe this could be the problem. Could you guys put some images of your render result?

No, there no new manual for he new build yet. But you can still learning from the old manual, also though the forum. You can learn from our support area and at the end we also offer training.

can you send me the orginal defaults when the manual was written so i can start from there, this is very frustrating that i just spent all this money and the program is set up differently then the manual....

                          Re: Cannot render Chairs-Original.skp correctly

The first part of the manual is just to show you how setup a good setting to do your first render. Basically we show you how active the "indirect Illumination" and the environment.
In our Old version of V-Ray the"Default light" on the Global switches was a direct light. Right now in the new build the "Default light" is the V-Ray sun. That is why the render of the scene is very bright. In the scene, the indirect illumination is turned off and the environment, meaning that the only light in your scene is the "Default Light" (sun). So that is the reason of your very bright scene. The shadows are very black and flat, because you don't have any bounces, because your indirect illumination is off. These are the setting with the old V-Ray.
Here is what you have to do to get a similar render.
                          1. Disable the "Default light" and the "Hidden" option on the Global switches.
                          2. Go to the camera and disable the physical camera.
                          3. Go to Indirect Illumination and turn it on.
                          4. Go to the Environment and enable the GI color and the BG color. Also you should have "m" samal m there. So disable the sun and sky.

With those changes you should get a very close render. We are using a new V-Ray core, with better sampling and some bugs fixed. So you will get a small difference.

There is a guide for the new features. This may help you understand some of the changes from the old version.

I found that reducing Dark Multiplier and Input Gamma to 0.1 makes things look closer to what is shown in the manual but I didn't have enough time to test it thoroughly or go on through the manual so I'm not 100% sure this is the right solution.
