  • Scaling vismat textures

    Hey there,

I am trying with sketch up and vray and have a unsolved problem...

I have downloaded some nice textures (vismat) and applyed to my model - bu the scale is to small and material like marble just look like "sandpaper"
i there a way to get it bigger?! or do i have to bild a smaler sketchup model? im building in "cm" (Architecture´)

    thank you

    Re: Scaling vismat textures

    hey, welcome to the forum!
The material scale needs to be set in Sketchup. The vismat material map comes in at a default scale of 10" I believe (25.4cm) If there is only a procedural map, you will need to add a diffuse map to be able to scale the texture. There are some more detailed instructions about that on the forum.

can you tell me where i can found that? i have searched for a long time an could not find a detailed answer for my problem - i think its very easy to scale ( it was in 3ds) but i don't know who to in skech up.

I can scale a "self made" sketch up material in the sketch up material editor ... but no vismat

      EDIT:

It seems to me like the vismat materials should be 100 times bigger in my model - i have renderet a 1x1m cube and the material repeated very very often ...

      EDIT 2:

after the hint for searching in the diffuse map i have tried to modify the "UVWGEnChannel" and entered Repeat 0,01 - now i looks like real texture! so the "problem" is solved, but i'm interested what caused this problem? is it my sketch up? or the material? now the material looks awful in the material prewiew but good in the model

        Re: Scaling vismat textures

Glad to hear you've made some progress!

Are you familiar with how to manipulate textures in SU? If not, you might search sketchucation or the sketchup tutorials to get familiar (there's more info than I have time for in a forum post :P )

Once you get your texture map to look correct in sketchup, you can change the UVWGenChannel (which is what vray calls the texture map scale information) back to 1.0, and see if that is working.

          Re: Scaling vismat textures

hm ... after a few days of working and texturing the most things look good the scaling of textures just works with (Gen 0,01). But it's "ok" ... the result looks good.

My biggest problem for now is "Water texture" ... i downloaded Water textures from here and they are good looking in the prewiew in sketch up, but on textures surfaces there is nothing to see ... if i texture with water the surface gehts "invisible" ... not water at all

You can disable transparency temporarily in your sketchup styles (uncheck in face settings)

              thank you

now i can see and render it

but its just the problem i have with the gen channel ... would had to change to "0.01" but it's to small - even wehen i change it to 0.01 ... will make a few renderings and test it ...

im using a vismat material for the water ....

EDIT: i have no idea ... would it be possible i create a Textured cube in sketchup and email it some of you to look at it? maybe you can find the mistake i'm doing?!

                Re: Scaling vismat textures

try changing your genchannel to 1.0 and then in the sketchup material editor change it to the scale it should be in real life. Sounds like you might be trying to work around an earlier mistake. Start over with your scale from 1.0 and see if that works...

                      puh...

i tried ..and tried.... and tried .... even the texture workarund in the topic you have told me ... i can see the texture and can scale it in the sketchup viewport ... works fine ... i tried a lot of scalings and rendered - but nothing - the rendered water surface is invisible ???

I have installed sketchup 8 and a trial version of vray on anther compoter and createt a new model .. (just a cube) ... exactly the same problem.

"There is no water in the Rendering"

Now im gonna try to use a Glass Vismat and add a little displacement ... if that does not work and i have no good overnight idea photoshop must help out ...

                        ???

Do you have a reflection layer in your vray water material? If something is transparent - it needs reflections to show up as a surface...

you could export and post your vismat file. I'd be glad to take a look.

                              Re: Scaling vismat textures

thanks! your for your offer to look at it .... and your answers till now!

I'm a little bit angry at the moment ... on Sketchup, Vray and the Vismat files.

I have made a new model and set the default length to Inch ... (i'm normally working in meters) and textured again ....

and .... drum roll .... I CAN SEE WATER! the render time explode .... the scaling is even to small, but there is reflective water ...
I will try it tomorrow on my architectural model ...

and... ecaxtly on the second pc... same vismat file ... loaded in meters ... nothing... change default lenght to inch.... there it is ...

i'm a little bit frustrated right know ...
