  • patchy renders when using dr spawner

    Hi,

I hope someone can help me.

We have recently purchased Vray for sketchup at my work. I have set up the DR spawner on a few machines but i keep having problems with patchy renders. If i render only on my machine the render is totally fine but when i add the spawners it starts to produced patchy renders - as the bucket representing the other machines moves over the visual only a colour is rendered not a texture. The bucket for my machine always renders the texture.

If i use sketchup materials and link them all to the server i dont have any problems with patchy renders but when i start to import in vray materials that are also on the server the patchy renders start again.

Does anyone have any idea on what could be causing this? Hope it all makes sense.

    Thanks

you need to make sure every single texture map is in a shared folder. Check anywhere you have a map linked (including bump maps, etc.) You can also set the location of the diffuse texture using the sketchup material editor, and that saves it correctly in vray.

Not sure if this still applies but I believe that DRSpawner isn't functional yet.

Depends on which version you have.....ask to get invited to the Beta Testing group and you can use a more up to date version with working spawner. Also, in addition to all the texture maps being inside a fodler that is accessible on a network by all mcahines, you need to make sure that your links aren't broken inside your material editor before you render. Sometimes, because of the texture cache folder and sketchups material editor, you can lose your link and the image becomes imbeded and when you render a copy is spit out to a temp folder location on you local drive which can't be seen by your DR machines.....food for thought.

I had an issue like this and was pulling my hair out for some time to figure it out. As in most cases it was something simple. I read many post on how to use DR. I had it working but textures file were not getting rendered on the slave computers.

Try this, under the system section of the options dialog, go to SettingsDR, I am sure you know this already but here is the part I missed. The Assets need to be shared among all the slaves as well.

Check the Asset Collection, you now have some options. This is what I did. I set mode to "Send to shared Folder" and then I picked a shared folder that was available to all computers in the Master/Slave configuration. Example: \\SERVERPC\Assets\MyProject and that should be all.

Out of all the post I read on this issue no one mentioned this needing to be set but this is what did the trick for me. I hope this helps!
