Well according to Thom's website he exported a sketchy version from Sketchup and colored it with Photoshop. I'm guessing it wasn't rendered at all. We've done similar work, but we use Adobe Illustrator.

Here's a tutorial I found a while ago that helped me learn this method.

*edit: You can also search for photoshop watercolor effect, there are plenty of sites out there. Just looking through my bookmarks, here's another one I had saved: http://10steps.sg/photoshop/transfor...olor-painting/

you can use the sketchup sketchy line style as the line overlay instead of the glowing edges filter.
For the color layer - export a sketchup view with only the colors/ shadows and no lines.

It's particularly nice if you have a tablet to "draw" with. There are also brush presets online that are pretty sweet.

Ive done something similar to this b4 I rendered tho and exported a jpg of the exact scene frm sketchup, then i overlayed them in photoshop and changed the sky pretty simple to do results are always nice, when u overlay them u can always play with the transparency in photoshop to determine how real or how cartoony you want it to look.
