If you want to use setting for testing try this.

DMC Sampler
Min Samples _ 4 Moise Threshold _ .1 Subdivs Mult .5
IRR Map -6 -3 , HSph Subdivs 50 , Samples 20
LC
Subdivs 200
The render is going to be very noise and splotchy, but the setting are really good for illumination and material composition testing.
Notice the difference in times. Test render is around 20 sec. while the Medium High render is 5m 37.2s.
