  • Oh my.... so sad I have to install the lastest VRAY for sketchup, and can't

    Hi

For years (?) I have been using version 01.05.30, because I find the newer UI to big, and because I use the texture enviroment to create a grassfield. Like here shown here: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=2320.0

But now I have updated to Sketchup version 8, and vray 01.05.30 automatic installs in C:\Programmer\Google\Google SketchUp 7 I had to update

When I install I'm asked for serveral activations options, but I only have a serial. What do I do ?

The options at the start of activation in the new version that came out about two months ago are as such:

I would like to use an existing license server.

I would like to set up a license server on this machine.

I would like to demo this product.

I have an offline activation file and would like to use that.

They are pretty self explanatory when I look at them, I don't know how much better I can boil them down but I do continue to try. I am open to suggestions if you have any.

In order to activate V-Ray you need to have a license server. If you only use one computer for V-Ray then that one computer makes a fine license server so you should choose option 2.

If other computers are going to take turns its better to choose one computer, any computer that can have a user logged in, to be the license server using option 2 and then use option 1 on all the other computers.

You would be surprised how often I have to explain option 3. If you want to demo the software choose this option.

Option 4 is a special shortcut for users who have ran through the above already and chose to do offline activation which has many advantages but means that you have to typically walk away and start over later. If you do not have an offline activation file then this is not the option you are looking for.

Correction: The newest patch is about two months old. The newest build is about a year old.

I would also like to point out, that if you have a valid license on that machine, you shouldn't need to go through the license wizard at all, because you already have a valid license.

        Dear Almari and Devin

I apologise for my quite impolite thread title. But I was quite concerned.

I installed Sketcup 8 and installed Vray and somehow messed up, and ended have VRay as a demo.

But it seems that there still is an issue (or I don't know if it's ment to be like this?). I can't use the environment texture the way I need (as I link to). So I have to go back to version 01.05.30, because I really need this feature. And therefore roll back to SU7 :-/

Somehow I have totally messed up my VRAY installs, and both my serials says that they have been activated to many times.

        What do I do ?

ps. It would be really nice with somekind of manual deactivation, like the one in Sketchup.
