I have been using V4S a lot in the last year and decided to take Vray for MAX for a test run since I have 3D Studio here at my new office. I found that both parsing and render times are faster than V4S but I havent really given it a full test yet. Does anyone have any experience with this? Does it make sense to go import my SU models to MAX and render them using Vray in there instead?

Re: Is VRay for MAX faster?
I've never tried benchmarking the render process against manually exporting everything, and then importing it in to max. The parsing time takes longer in SketchUp than any other host application (Max, Maya, Rhino, maybe even C4D, not sure), because SketchUp doesn't keep track of it's geometry, materials, textures or components in a logical way, nor does it allow you to transfer that data to an external structure. We have to sort through it all, rather than just asking SketchUp for the information. That's why there is even a "parsing time" in the first place. The actual render time though, once V-Ray starts rendering... shouldn't be any different, we're using the same core and rendering technology that is used in V-Ray for Max. So you could take the time to manually export the data from SketchUp, in to Max... or you could allow us to automatically export the data from SketchUp and toss it over to V-Ray to render it. I'm not sure how long it would take to do it manually, but if you can do it manually faster than we can do it automatically, I would be surprised. I'm interested to hear how the time works out if anyone wants to do the benchmark test.Best regards,

Re: Is VRay for MAX faster?
I've ran a couple of test renderings in VRay for MAX and it just seemed faster to me. I made a little teapot with a glazed texture and rendered a fly around animation and it just seemed to scream through it. I didnt test it up against SU but my feeling based on experience would be that it would take at least twice as long to render.
I love SU and I love VR and having the 2 together is bliss for me, but I just feel like if I want to take things to 'the next level' I have to be using MAX.Matthew Valero, ASAI

if you want it to bring to the next level. that is completely your call my friend. provided you have to be ready with frustrations in the beginning. nevertheless when you manage to go through on that it will be another delight. vraymax+3dmax combo are already an established couple. ;D
