  • How to reduce the render time???

I am having serious problems rendering a small scene of 800x454 in resolution. It takes ages to render, after about 10 hours, i needed to stop it cuz the speed of the render was ridiculous. I coudnt finish a render yet. At first, i thought the problem was that i had a lot of emissive materials in the model, but i even deleted some parts of the model and some lights (that are not visible in the render) to make the things go faster.

I checked all the materials, and the textures have a maximum size of 512x512. I suspect the reason is some materials that vray doesnt handle, cuz in other models it only takes about 1-2 hours to finish with the same visopt options. I rendered about 10 models and only this one is making me crazy.

Is there any way to know wat materials and the most important, WHY are causing the render time to take ages??

Oh boy long render times......no fun
Lucky for you Vray is one of the fastest renderers. So there will be a fix.

    Questions
1.) what Vray version are you using?
    2.) What are your settings?
3.) what are your computer spec's?
4.) what is the poly count on your model?

Im no expert, but I know answers to these question may help narrow the problem down

      I had similar issue.
What I did was, for diagnostic purpuose, I checked "override material" box, and then unchecked "effected by override material" in one material, then render. If it was ok, then I unchecked in next material (leaving the first one unchecked) until found the problematic one.
For me it was a simple brown color, not even a texture, no special reflection/refraction layers

holmes1977 if you read my first post, u notice that i have NO problems with other models, so the visopt options are OK, besides, i finally made a good visopt balance between quality and speed and every model i render takes about 1-2 hours (maximum) to render (the low resolution ones).
My computer is a laptop xD, but as i said i have no problems in rendering much complex models and the render time is about just fine. The model has low count on polygons (it is just a power generator with some basic shapes).

My su vr version is 1.48

Kain, yup, i suspect that u right, but since most of the materials i used in this model are already used in the other models, i really dunno wat material is making the things going down. But i will investigate, thx for the tip. By the way, where is the option to uncheck the "override material" in the material ??????

P.D.: Holmes, no... vray is not precisely a fast render engine. In fact, it is one of the slowest render engines out there, the good thing is that it is one of the best quality producers, but that cost speed. Before i started with vray, i used kerkythea and artlantis, and believe me, those two are fastest than vray. But of course the quality compared with a good vray render is very low.

do you have any translucent material? if you have, try removing it first then test render your scene.

I too have used many a renderer. I find it alot faster than most, for equal amount of quality. I was comparing apples for apples :

              Try this

              OPTIONS
Global Switches + tick Overide materials

              MATERIAL EDITOR
Choose a material go to its option tab, untick the effect override material box

              Now render.

You should get a render where all the materials are grey. Except the material you unticked the effect override materials box.

This render should be fast. Go through ech material untill you find the corrupted material. Hope this helps

This is a problem..although i think they fixed itl. If you have any translucent materials it will sometimes mess with render times in a baaaad way

Where is the "effect override material" option?? i cant find it anywhere in the material editor.

Yup, i have translucent materials, the same materials that i used in the other models, so i think thats not the problem. I changed some materials that i added new in the model and now it seems that it improved the render time , now i only "need" to wait about 6-7 hours... lol. I think the mix between the translucent materials, ant the big emissive parts that i have in the model , in conjuction with all the reflection layers are making the render take ages. But well, almost now it can be done.... :-\
