  • Bring back the old material library!

I was distressed to find out that the old material library off the ASGVIS site is no longer available.
Sure the Chaosgroup have one on their site but when i eventually gained the access rights to it, I found a load of the old traditional materials missing.

Obvious materials like glass are not there. On the old library there was quite a few different versions.

In addition there are no previews of what you are downloading!

I know there is a great third party site available http://luzindirecta.luxisessentia.com but I am a creature of habit and thought it might be obvious to migrate a useful resource like this across.

On that note where are all the wonderfull video tutorials we used to have??

Someone with a bit of influence, please encourage the new powers that be to reinstate this.

    Thanks

    Dave

I'm pretty sure all of the stuff will be migrated on the new site eventually; apologies if this caused any inconvenience.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

The "Downloads" section of the site will have a section called "Vismats". Currently the vismat section is empty, but as vlado said, it will all be migrated eventually. Our installers for VfR and VfS are available for download now. I believe that the manuals are up too.

I hope we can figure out a way to convert a MAX Vray material to VISMAT. There are so many more resources for that file type than VISMAT.

the max vray material doesn't have it's own file format, and is stored in the 3d studio max file format. The 3d studio max file format is not open, and they don't really let you mess with it (as far as I know). That's why we made the converter utility for 3d studio max. So at best, we could improve the conversion tool... but you would still need to have a copy of 3d studio max to use the converter plugin.

Do you need Vray for MAX as well?

yes, I believe so. That's why we made the .vismat format, so that materials could move from one host app to another, without losing any info.
