  • Helping Each Other

Since the move from ASGVIS to Chaos, the sketchup section has gone very quiet. There have been a few posts, but responses have all seemed rather half hearted.
Surely, especially for newbies, this is the place to come and ask questions - and to expect a coherant reply, so they can improve and develop, as us 'old timers' have done before.
On the other hand, when the 'old timers' do give a response, a thank you does not go amiss, or at least an acknowledgment - otherwise, next time you don't feel like bothering.

Maybe things will spring back into life if Chaos release a new version of VRSU, but in the meantime I hope we can all 'muck-in' (a technical term!) and help each other to get better.

    David - in hope!

seems to me the posting restrictions for non-licensed users killed off most of the newbie foot-traffic, so to speak. Dunno if that's good or bad. Also, there hasn't been a new release for a while, so nothing new to hash over... New Beta please!

I really missed the old one. And you are right David, we still missed the old time where the manual was not even there and we were sharing each other knowledge. I think I will agree with Andy about the restriction. anyhow i think that is Chaos group policy.

If you own the product, you can post in all of the forums for that product. If you don't you can only post in the public section. It's not that crazy of a restriction. There were some rough patches during the initial transition, as should be expected, but now things have settled down and work as they should. I agree that the lack of discussion is mainly due to the lack of anything new to discuss (we haven't had any competitions in a bit either), and the lack of 1st time users that are just using the demo and wanted to ask a quick question.

Just an update, since a new version of vfs was mentioned. We are still working on finalizing a new version for V-Ray for Rhino. We are hoping to wrap that up in the next month or so, and then move on to preparing for the next development cycle. Not 100% sure what the goal of the next development cycle will be, but we should begin the planning phase for it soon.
        Best regards,

          Devin,
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the forum guidelines. I'm just noting that people who are just trying the program now are less likely to post than before when there was easier access. I'd rather not return to the days of watching for spam postings :P
I'm excited for the next phase of vfsu development!

well, i have to agree with you guys... i also miss the old forum. Actually, i'm kind of... how do you say when you can´t move forward?... since the forum changed. I have to say, i am the kind of guy that studies and reads, and watches tutorials and everything, but all of that is not compared with which we may learn from others...
perhaps we should just try to post at the public section, and see if some of the guys from the old forum are still there...
i didn´t know that they were capable of posting there...

The reasons for the death of the sketchup vray forum are many, one of which is the posting "restrictions" which is ridiculously silly, the only thing they cause is a substantially smaller amount of interaction and knowledge sharing/helping. Restrictions like this will not increase sales, if anything, it will decrease them as one important factor for anyone buying a product like this is user interaction (in other words - quick help). Isn't it obvious? And the fact that they take years to bring out any update/fix is unacceptable also, which leads to people using other (just as good) renderers. Added to all this, the new forums are very ugly and badly designed. Where are the side widgets to show us latest posts? Why is the default option to show the newest post on top? Why are there 20 million outdated and irrelevant sticky topics still there that make it harder to find the new threads (you have to scroll down a lot)? Chaosgroup need to get their act together. They are turning into a joke. The vray for sketchup bugs in the latest versions are ridiculous and I can not believe they "expect" us to wait for their "super new framework"... We do not care about the frameworks, paying customers want results.. Working too hard and can only work on one version (rhino) at a time? Hire more programmers.....

if you look at the main page, there are actually lots of people viewing. maybe watching. but less interactions..

lol, the forum organization could be better. I'm glad the filter was added for new topics, but still... would be nice to have those stickies cleaned up.
