  • Tiff Transparency Problem

    Hi
Im a bit rusty on Vray. Its been awhile since Ive done a project with it. Im having trouble remembering how to do things. I imported a 3ds model which was mapped with tiff images to make into a proxie. The tiff images have transparency. When I try and make a reflection layer, reflections show up in the transparency areas. How do I fix this? I feel I should know this, but like I said its been awhile.

You need to create a reflection map which has non-reflective (0,0,0 black) areas where the diffuse map is transparent.

Sorry Having a dumb moment, been in Thea Land too long. Where do I put the alpha map to stop the reflection? I do realize that the alpha will have to be inverted.

        Hi,

You don't need an alpha channel for the reflection map, just make black and white image (like this one shown in the screenshot) and set the area that has to be without reflection with black.
For your case the texture has to be inverted in order to get reflection only over the leaf surface.

          Holmes,

Load the inverted bitmap in the reflection slot (the "M" next to Reflection). If you're already using a fresnel map in the reflection slot then you'll need to place the bitmap in the corresponding fresnel slots.

            Thanks for your help
I had tried to put that inverted alpha into the Fresnel slots. The result came out with a chrome like reflection. What I forgot was to lower the value of the reflection multiplier. I had to reduce it to 0.1.
