  • Black Foliage

Hi and this maybe a really dumb question so apologies, sometimes my TGA foliage textures turn out black......see attached screengrab, any ideas? In some particular scenes this happens all the time, all the options are set to default. In other scenes the same textures work perfectly, again all options on default. Any ideas?Click image for larger version

Make sure "Use color texture as transparency" is checked in the VfSU Material Editor.

Thanks for that Jackson, it is unfortunately checked (see screenshot with my question). I have tried restarting RT, looking at the object from behind etc, still no luck, any ideas?

I didn't know you were rendering in RT; depending on which method you use (CPU vs GPU) and your hardware, RT sometimes doesn't render alpha textures correctly so try changing that. If that doesn't work try converting your TGA textures to PNG.

Thanks Jackson, is there any method in RT not rendering TGA textures...or is it a dark art...will try converting file.

If you have the know-how, saving the alpha mask as a separate file and then using that for the transparency material (and unchecking the option to "use texture for transp.") is the sure-fire way to avoid this issue. If you don't know how, Google is your friend...

Thanks andybot, now found that with RT in CPU mode transparent textures work fine, its just maybe half the speed of GPU rendering, but its workable. So maybe just use RT CPU to edit the foliage, RT GPU for the rest.
