  • the most difficult material to create in the world?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4l3APAfs54
check the video for the material that im talking about, please.

hi you, i really have trouble creating this material.

it has sth to do with fresenal and alpha masking , i think. the material becomes partly lighter when viewing from an angle.
if viewed straight on, no patterns shown in the material, but when viewed sideways the patterns show. please help. if someone know the answer.
thanks a lot. it will make my day, since this bothers me for a long time.

you could try using opposite orientation anisotropy. One layer one way (like -.5) and then mask a layer below (at +.5). Do you have a texture of this pattern? I could try putting the material together if this doesn't make sense.

You're most welcome! I put together layered anisotropic reflections mapped to the reflection map. I did a test render on a couch, see if this is looking like what you need. I tried using the texture as a bump map too, but I thought the effect was too strong. Maybe if the map is less contrasty for the bump it might work better.

hi Andy, I used your material and changed the material. it works pretty well! thanks. well if i want to understand the science behind it. what should i search for. i am not sure how can i get the info i needed because i still don't know how to describe it and have a successfully search? just curious.

side note: i faked the material with a lepard black and white pattern in photoshop, becuase the scanned img can't capture the pattern at all.
i attached a original one for your playing around. just need to google a black and white leopard or jaguar pattern or make it manually and mix it in ps.

It's not too complicated. It's just a layered material that takes advantage of the way anisotropy changes semi-glossy reflections depending on angle. Maybe look up more on anisotropy and the vray settings it to get a better idea:
            http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help...rial.htm#aniso

You can adjust the settings to get a stronger or softer effect.
