  • Upgrading and Moving

    Hi,

I have just purchased an upgrade to my software and downloaded it onto a new workstation (hpz440) and am struggling to get the dongle to work. The plugin appears on SU but comes up with the dialogue
Failed to Checkout Vray gui license".

As I have moved to a new computer I now understand I need add the new IP address in the license server which I did but this times out then I try and use it.

I have activated the rtu file issued for the upgrade license and also clicked on activate license via the SU/extensions/Vray/help/activate license path.

Please can someone help with this configuring.

Please make sure that you use the correct dongle. You can check if you can see the license listed when you navigate in your web browser to http://localhost:30304 on the machine with the dongle - there should be a V-Ray 3 license.
If you've moved to a new computer to use SketchUp with V-Ray on - you just need to install the license server and the drivers on it (if you haven't already done that) and to point the license settings to "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" - the localhost default IP address.

If the dongle is on a different computer than the one that you use SketchUp on (for some specific reason in your environment) - the license settings should point to the computer with the dongle IP address - more information can be found here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings
Please note that in that case, you have to make sure TCP ports 30304 is opened in Windows firewall (or another firewall if you use any) for communication between the two computers.

If you can't see your licenses listed when navigating to http://localhost:30304 - please create a new context.wbc file and e-mail it attached to us. To do that:

    1. Make sure you use the latest V-Ray license server. It can be downloaded from https://download.chaosgroup.com/license-server
    2. Make sure the dongle is plugged in
    3. On the same workstation open a web browser and paste this into the address bar (this is a regular website link):
    http://127.0.0.1:30314/goupgrade

Alternatively ? you can use the ?Upgrade? button as described here - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...line+Licensing
For guidance ? please see pt. 3 and 4 in the following article - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...atinga.wbcFile

    4. When the "Success" page opens after the operation is done, save the remote context file (context.wbc) by right-clicking on the link and using Save Link As.. / Save Target As...; - as described in the link above.
    5. Attach the file to a reply of this e-mail and send it to us at support@chaosgroup.com

Thank you. After a frustrating couple of days trying to resolve the problem Chaos support kindly remotely accessed my computer and discovered the issue was with the V-Ray license server and sorted it within a couple of minutes. Although I downloaded and activated
the standaline software, appartently a Windows update may have interferred with it and stopped it working. (In case my experience is useful to anyone else.)
