  • Aliasing at edges of rectangular lights

Using vray 3.40.04 and Sketchup 2017, I am having bad aliasing around the edges of visible bright rectangular lights in the ceiling. I used to deal with this using sub-pixel mapping and clamp output under the color-mapping settings -- but I don't find those now.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hi Dave,

This is a known issue in V-Ray 3.6 core.
The Adaptive Lights combined with Light Cache are preventing the Subpixel Clamp from working properly.

To resolve it you can go to AssetEditor/Settings/Raytrace/Optimizations and disable Adaptive Lights.

We'll do our best to fix that and make both the effects work together as expected.

      Konstantin:

Good to know... but I am using 3.40.04 at the moment. I am holding off on installing 2018 and 3.6 as I'm upgrading to a new machine towards the end of the month.

      What about 3.4?

      Thanks,

      Dave

Never mind... I just realized I hadn't clicked on the little icon to open the advanced options, where subpixel clamping resides!

        Thanks,

Ok -- so I enabled subpixel clamp at a value of 1 -- it cleared up my jaggies at the lights, but then the whole rest of the image gets really noisy and the denoiser seems to do nothing. Suggestions?

            Hello, Dave,

Could you please send your scene (use Extensions > Export >Pack Project) and the rendered image at support@chaosgroup.com so my colleagues can investigate the issue. Make sure to mention in the email you're using v3.4.

            Kind regards,
            Peter
