  • Problem: installing V-Ray 2.00.26579 in SU Pro 2018

    Hi,

My apologies if this has been asked before, but I've been absent from the forums for months and have searched for an answer without success. We have recently started upgrading our SU 8 and 13 licenses to SU Pro 2018, but are currently still running V-Ray for SketchUp 2.00.26579. Trouble is after uninstalling VfSU and reinstalling it there's no V-Ray toolbar in SU.

I uninstalled VfSU, uninstalled SU 8/13, ran CCleaner's registry cleaner, restarted my PC, installed SU Pro 2018 and reinstalled VfSU, but it's not running in SU. The weird thing is that I can see that VfSU files and folders have been created in SU 2018's program folders so it doesn't seem to be a path problem. Is it simply a matter of VfSU 2.0 being incompatible with SU 2018?

We are going to upgrade to VfSU 3.6 soon, but urgently need to get SU upgraded across all our machines, ideally with VfSU 2.0 for the time being.

I'd be grateful for any help or advice with this urgent problem!

    /Jackson

    Hi Jackson,

V-Ray 2 is supported up to SketchUp 2016, for SketchUp 2017 and 2018 (and future versions) you'd need V-Ray 3.

      Hi Ivan,

I understand that V-Ray 2 is only supported up to SketchUp 2016, but I guess you're saying that there's no workaround to install V-Ray 2 to SU 2018, even at a buggy-as-hell-don't-even-think-about-asking-for-technical-support level?

      Thanks,
      /Jackson

You are correct, that's no way to install it on later version (than 2016), no nightly builds etc. With license upgrades to V-Ray 3, we temporarily leave the old V-Ray 2 licenses so that you'd able to finish older projects (there's no full backwards compatibility between V-Ray 3 and V-Ray 2).
I'd recommend you to check with Trimble if you can get a temporary license either for SketchUp 2013 or at least 2016.
