Progressive rendering vs not and GPU rendering

I have probably mix progressive rendering with interactive rendering and therefor not use it but now then I compare it on a simple rendering I got 3:59 with it off and 2:30 with it on. How can it differ so much and do I loss any quality with it on? Then I enable my graphic card too it didn't change the render time at all, shouldn't a GTX 670 make any differens even if a i7 3770k @ 4,2 GHz is a bit of power?

Do you mean you're getting the different times when having Progressive mode toggled on and off?
