  • Reloading component takes 10x longer

I am working on a large scene and when working on one of the buildings as a component, when I reload the model, I found out that with VRay installed, the reload time is easily 10X longer than without VRay. I am sure this is the just a product of the reload process and VRay going through everything, so it's more of an FYI if you find yourself waiting a ridiculous about of time for something to reload.

I had noticed this since the release of vfs 3 on SketchUp 2017. I thought the increased reload/paste time is due to every entity being named/numbered even the faces and edges since SketchUp 2017, not due to Vray, as I have experienced the same issue on machine without Vray installed.

Can you confirm this that your reload is fine on the machine without Vray?

Would love to find out the real reason for this whether it be Vray or SketchUp, because I have been waiting a long time for this workflow on large scenes.

    --Edit
correction, I had tested this and it seems that the time is massively improved when V-ray is disabled.
It was only one occasion, so I would have to try a bit more to confirm this.

Oh it's VRay. I uninstalled V-Ray and the reload times were cut easily to a 1/10th of the time.

        Hi,

Kindly note that the load times do depend on the complexity of the project and the assets related to it. Additionally, if any of the components within the project use outdated plugins, an upgrade script will go through all the scene assets and features to account for incompatibilities.

Regardless, could you please share a sample project where the issue is reproducible?

The other issue is that I can not simply disable V-Ray because once it is installed, it will not save toolbar or extension enable/disables. This has been lingering for some time now.

I am working on a file which is sharable. These are quite large projects where I can't really share out things.
When I can reproduce consistent results, I will post back.
And I do understand the results can vary depending on the pure complexity of the model.

Simply save a project once and the toolbar positions will be saved. Extension state should be automatically saved unless SketchUp has not closed properly (crashed).

Thoroughly tested load times with heavy models. Even when V-Ray is enabled and activated (e.g. Asset Editor open), component reloading slowdown compared to clean SketchUp varies between +20% to +75% (depends on models).
Tenfold increase in this regard appears too extreme and my suspicion is that it may be related to something scene-specific.

Please let me know if this occurs with every project or only specific ones. We'd appreciate the chance to test any such problematic projects.

              Kind regards,
              Peter

ValeroStudio i had this happen on almost all the machines under my network after installing the windows 10 falls creators update. Uninstalling and reinstalling "As administrator" (Done through right click) solved the issue for me. Make sure you backup any shortcuts you have saved in the Window->Preferences->Shortcuts as it doesn't retain them. Immediately after re-installations the toolbars stick after closing.

Peter.Chaushev think there is a common bug between sketchup and windows 10 fall creators update. It happens to other extensions as well as Vray so i don't think it was directly a problem with the Vray extension
