  • effectsresult. WHY?

Whenver I use the denoiser (which is an absolute necessity) My filenames are spammed with 'effectsresult" which has to be deleted by hand from every file. Is it me thinking it completely irelevant what effectsresult this is? How can I save a file with just the required filename without the spam?

    Hi,
As the Denoiser is a Render Element it is normal behavior for a suffix to be added to that render channel’s output name. Each Render Element is saved with a named suffix in order to be easily discoverable and categorized. Also, the effectResult channel is ment for more than one effect - Denoised result and Lens Effects for example.
For the moment there is no way to skip this automatic naming.
I've logged a ticket regarding your request. The ability to replace RGB as main output file with effectsResult will be discussed by our developers at a later date.

If I understood correctly, you only wish to use your denoised result as main output file or do you have anything else in mind? Additionally, is your request regarding the automatic output file saving controlled via the Asset Editor or the manual one via the VFB?

    Regards,
    Ana

Weird. Result after denoiser is end-result. Which is saved and used. So any added things to filename delivers extra work afterwards. No off-switch. Sigh. Sometimes vray is as unpractical as autocad...

I can see why this workflow might not be perfect for your needs. I'll make a note to discuss this internally and see how we can improve it. To be able to do this, however, I'll need your help and feedback. If you could answer these questions for me, it would be greatly appreciated:

        1. Would you still want to keep a non-denoised version as a render element? For example if the RGB image becomes the denoised image to be saved, would you need a non-denoised RGB_original as a render element?
        2. Do you often change the denoiser settings for the same render?
        3. Do you often use the lens effects in the VFB?
        4. Do you use lens effects in combination with the denoiser?

          NO. denoised is final.

          No.

          NO.

Yeah, I think that with no render elements, the rgb result is the final and is named as specified by the user. With render elements active, the effectsresult is the final and should be named as specified by the user, while original could just be named something.rgb.png or something.rgba.png (a if there's an alpha, and no need for a complicated name). There should also be an option to save just the final image for cases when lens effects and/or denoiser is used.

Just wondering if any progress has been made regarding this issue? I'm doing 6 different color options for 2 different views of a project.......and the auto-filing naming is making me pull my hair out. Can I please be in charge of what I name the file? Also, when saving from the VFB, the file format defaults to PNG....every time. Is there a way to make it remember what you chose last time? (its the little things that slowly drive you crazy....) ;p

The file naming no longer appends the channel name in the latest official release. That should be 4.12.02, a.k.a V-Ray Next for Maya, Update 1.1.

We're working on coming up with a good workflow logic for the paths/formats when saving from the VFB.
