  • Apple M1 Ultra GPU render support

Will Vray for Sketchup ever support a CUDA type render engine to tap into the full capacity of the integrated GPU cores on the New M1 Max and Ultra CPUs? CPU rendering is maxed out at 2000% on the M1 Ultra processor but the GPU lays idol.

    Hello phil_edwards,

This is not in the current plans and V-Ray GPU will only work with NVidia cards. You can find more information about the current state of V-Ray GPU rendering on Mac machines here. Thank you.

        Hi, ivan_overton.

We are aware that now this article is not available.
But thanks for pointing this out, we could edit the link in the initial post to avoid misunderstanding.

Please find the needed information here:
GPU support on macOS starting with V-Ray Next

With V-Ray GPU, CUDA rendering on macOS is still there, but its status is changed to “unofficial” for reasons we'll try to explain below.

Apple devices don't come with NVIDIA GPUs installed and there is no official support by Apple for NVIDIA eGPUs on macOS devices. This makes it really hard for us to develop code and provide adequate support. We have tried the Metal API and, currently, it is not a viable option for our ray-tracing code. If this changes in the future, we will surely consider it.
If there are any news regarding the GPU support, we will share an update.
