  • Cosmos Objects vs VRscene

    Hi,
With Cosmos Browser, we have the possibility to merge the objects in the scene and therefore to modify the materials as we want.

Wouldn't it be possible to do the same thing with .vrscene files?
To have the possibility to modify the materials.
I am not interested in modifying the geometry.

    I dream of this option...
    Windows 10 - RTX 3090 - AMD Ryzen 9 5950X - 128 Go RAM
    Sketchup PRO 23.0.419 + V-Ray 6.20.02
    3DS Max 2024.2.1 + V-Ray 6.20.06
    Chaos Vantage 2.3.0
GeForce Studio Ready Driver Version 546.01

    Hello DCHA34 ,

This is possible with the V-Ray Scene Importer, you need to import the .vrscene file in your project from File > Import. V-Ray Scene Importer tool imports .vrscene files directly as SketchUp models and you are able to edit the scene. Here is the documentation page:https://docs.chaos.com/display/VSKET...Scene+Importer
With V-Ray 6 all V-Ray material parameters are imported (while in V-Ray 5 there were only the Diffuse and Opacity parameters), you can check the feature in the beta build.
Let me know if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Iva

      Hello Iva,
I know this option and I have tested it several times but the result is not convincing.
I only need to retrieve the materials and not the geometry, so when I use this option I have to wait long minutes (depending on the scene) for the scene to be inserted.
Sometimes the scene doesn't load in Sketchup or the materials don't match with the .vrscene imported by the V-Ray button.

So I still say that the method used for Cosmos objects would be perfect.

I can send you a .vrscene that does not import into Sketchup + VRay 6 beta but works fine in Vantage.

        Hello DCHA34 ,

Thank you for the feedback, I noted it in our internal ticketing system. Loading and editing .vrscene files' materials is in out To Do list, the implementation is unfortunately not easy.
You can send me the problematic .vrscene file in a private message or via this link: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new, this will help us further.
Please note that our dev team is working on improving the performance of the V-Ray Scene Importer.

        Kind regards,
        Iva
