  • Polygon Limit for UE4 Import?

    Hey all

Is there a specific limit on polygons when exporting to Unreal? Pretty much every try has resulted in a crash. Haven't tried with proxies yet. Thanks!

    Hi, NorthlogicVFX

There isn't a hard limit for polycount of meshes. Do you have a second UV channel for your mesh? If you don't then on import V-Ray detects that there is only 1 channel and then enables the Generate Lightmap UVs in the Static Mesh. Unreal then copies the UVs from the 1 channel and then does a packing process so that no UVs are out od the 0-1 range. If the mesh has a lot of polygons or bad UVs that may result in a freeze/crash sometimes depending on the hardware. If you just add a second UV channel you will pass that check and your mesh will import without problem. Maybe there is a problem with the material assigned to the object. You can send us a sample of the problematic mesh at support@chaosgroup.com

    Best regards,
    Alexander
