  • Rhino, Vray to unreal workflow

    Hi all,
I am evaluering vray for unreal but not having much luck. Its mostly the 1-0 range with UV mapping error i keep getting. So as i see i cant just export my standard vray for rhino scene it needs work before being exported. Does any one have a workflow for setting up a vray file that will enter unreal with no issues? As i understand there are allot of materials not compatable and the uv mapping must be correct. I cannot find any tutorials on the correct workflow for the UV mapping to be comptable with unreal. Any feedback will be much appreciated.

    Hello,

Would it be possible to send us the scene for investigation to support@chaosgroup.com. Please mention this thread also.

      Hello Martin,

      Good Afternoon.

I have a similar problem as Pivot Produktdesign. I have licenses to both V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for Unreal and is learning the V-Ray for Rhino from quick start guide from chaosgroup help website. The quick start guides are good. I finished the Exterior Lighting exercise as presented. The model rendered great in Rhino with V-Ray.

When I try to export the 3dm file into vrscene file and import into Unreal. Most imported meshes do not have proper UV for lightmaps (outside [0,1] error). My question is that if there is a technique to prepare UV for lightmap in rhino and preserve through vrscene file into Unreal or after import from vrscene file have Unreal automatically generate proper UV for lightmaps.

At the current state, it seems UV for lightmaps are duplicated from UV for texture. That is both maps are exactly the same.

Thank you for help in advance.

This error occurs when some mapping coordinates fall outside the default mapping UV region (U and V values of 0 to 1):

There are a number of discussions on this topic, such as this one: https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/uvw-m...orting-to-fbx/

I'm afraid there is no automatic method that will prevent potential errors. The struggles you are facing are definitely noted thanks to feedback such as yours. I'll raise the priority on providing better info about V-Ray data transfers from V-Ray for Rhino/SketchUp to V-Ray for Unreal. Hope to have something to share with you soon.

        Kind regards,
        Peter

Hi Peter.Chaushev, Thank you for your reply. I have been studying and experimenting more on the topic. Because of that, I sent a long detailed email to support@chaosgroup.com and request more info today. Please help me on the issue. I wish to work out a method not to go through all meshes manually one by one to correct lightmap UVs.
