  • Testing landscape / skylight issue

    Hi,
I would like to give short feedback:
I installed today the last Vray-update (in UE 4.24.3) and testing the landscape actor.

So for testing I created only a landscape actor and put a megascans material on it in 8k.

    - with CPU it takes a bit long until it starts. But maybe this is dependent from the size of the landscape.
Is there any difference now between mesh or landscape actor?

    - with skylight added it crashes always when rendering
(I remember support for it was added recently)

    Cheers

    Hi BeneZ,

From the screenshot it doesn't seem that the crash is caused by V-Ray and we cannot reproduce it. Does it crash when you use just the skylight or only when it is together with the landscape? Also does it crash when not using a megascans material and does it crash on GPU? Can you send us the project to test it?

    Best regards,
    Alexander

Of course I can send the project

      Some more experiences:
      CPU / CUDA
I also notice, that the project never remembers, when opened fresh, if I had choosen to use GPU or not. It's always checked.

      CUDA Ram
I have two gtx1080ti but the rendering is better without them (the also have latest "stable" firmware).
      1. landscape is still black rendered
      2. it quickly goes out of memory and seems not faster to me
p.s.: out of memory was with a different scene, not just the landscape

I tested now again: Just the skylight causes the crash (I tested CPU and also with CUDA)

        And here is my testfile:
        https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r2p8p8h54...kmYSyxUma?dl=0
(takes still 10 minutes to upload)
Level is called something like "SkylightTest".
There is a folder "TURN OFF" with a bit unnecessary stuff, that I always turn again off at start-up.
You can delete landscape (I tested without any landscapes, just the simple floor).

          Hi BeneZ

An update on the issue. The crash occurs often when you have a skylight in the scene and you have enabled Raytracing in the Project. We are looking into it and I will post when we have something more.

          Best regards,
