  • Optimized Render Times

This will be my second GPU interior. The first one was awesome, but this one, not so much. It's a simple space, but my render times are awful! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Here is the complete model

I didn't see a scene file in the zip.

I'm on 3.6 so I put vray light portals at the windows but my first thought are the two sheer curtains in front of the windows with the 2-sided material. Those always seems to kill my render times. I also wonder if they are messing up the adaptive dome sampling (this is totally just a guess) of Next.

I put those there because of the fridge reflection. I did find something interesting. When I add a vray sun, allowing it to create a vray sky in the env slot, and dropping the vray sky in a vray dome, things work faster. I was doing it a little different, but it should be the same end. I was creating a dome and adding the sky from the dome material slot. I would then add the sun, clearing the env slot.

Maybe try excluding the sheer curtains from GI calc so it's the "direct" light coming through the window illuminating the interior rather than the 2-sided material (again, just a guess). As for the vray sky, that is interesting. I thought it was supposed to work better the other way around.

I turned off the curtains and there weren't any time improvements. I am still getting poor render times.

Yep, anything but planes in windows took 3+ hours (4K). Planes in Windows, 25 minutes (4K).

Do you by any chance have instanced cameras? If so - it is a known Max issue - instant cameras generate constant refresh notifications. In the video I think the camera target distance text is also blinking.

Any chance your camera is an instanced copy?
