  • Memory limitations?

Are there memory limitations on GPU bucket renders? I just got a new computer with 96GB of Ram and an RTX6000. We mainly render high resolution stills. I have a huge file the seems to crash max.

I have just started using VRAY GPU, is there some goto settings for GPU renders

Let's first confirm that everything works fine simple scenes. Can you try rendering a less complex scene and let us know whether it works fine or not?
Can you also try to render the crashing scene on the CPU and let us know whether it renders fine or not?
Log file would be very useful so please send it over for inspection.

The versions of V-Ray, DCC software and GPU drivers would be very helpful too.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I advise you try first rendering with C++/CPU device only and see if the crash happens.
Second, we support true instancing through dynamic geometry and proxies, Forest Pro and other instancing plugins. Instancing of "static" geometry does not reduce memory usage.
Very large 16K or 32K bitmaps may cause out-of-memory crashes, but this is scene dependent and can be tweaked/corrected by setting textures mode to On-demand-texutres.

      You can test these first.
Ofcourse, scene, logs etc. sent to support@chaosgroup.com would help a lot.

So sorry for the late reply I was out of the office. I will try to gather the info today. I will have to try to render it again

        But

        Simple scenes work fine
This scene renders fine on CPU

I am using VRAY Next 1.2
        3DS Max 2019.3
        Nvidia Driver 419.67

Figures!! It seems to work now. After I realized the CPU renderer worked I decided to finish the job on it. I did roll back my Nvidia Driver to 419.67 so that might have been the issue

Glad to hear you figured it out.
Have you noticed what's is the peak CPU Memory Utilization during the rendering?

How would I get that information? During rendering the CPU utilization is at 100% but I dont know if that is the same as CPU Memory Utilization

You can monitor the Memory Usage during the rendering in Windows Task Manager.
