im beginning to realise that a lot of the visual differences between cpu and gpu are down to a lack of texture filtering. CPU defaults to texture filtering of 1. gpu just doesnt filter at all as far as i can tell. swap a cpu scene to gpu and its often the filtering that makes everything look different. especailly bump mapping.
i understand that a lot of people reduce or even turn off filtering on cpu, but, particularly for animation, eliminating completely is undesirable.
i need to match a source render which has default filtered textures. it renders 5x faster on gpu, but looks off because the textures are too sharp now.
