  • Out of core memory rendering questions - what can you tell us?

I'm curious to know what kind of limitations will exist for out of core rendering - ie - using system RAM and not GPU ram - which will theoretically allow us to render larger scenes.

    Some questions:

+ Will this be RTX cards only?
+ Is there a considerably slowdown?
+ Does this affect which scenes can be rendered?

I'm curious because I'm excited, but also curious because it will help me to make purchasing decisions.

I realise it's not finalised yet, but a rough idea might be nice.

    Answers to your questions:
    1. The out-of-core functionality will work for all V-Ray GPU supported graphics cards.
    2. There could be a slowdown, however, it depends on the amount of lacking memory.
    3. It won't matter what scenes would be used for OOC to be utilized.

There is a lot of discussion about the matter in various threads in the forum, which may also provide helpful information, and would suggest doing so if interested.

Would this slowdown be comparable to the slowdown when the dynamic memory limit is full and V-Ray has to empty it? Or does it transfer it to the regular RAM instead of the harddrive?

Not sure if we can make an accurate comparison between the two functionalities since they are both scene dependent and utilize different scene data buffer storage. And yes, the out-of-core feature would utilize the system RAM).
