Where can I find tests comparing GPU vs CPU performance in the same scenes?

    Offtopic ...
GPU HW is easier to scale (4 GPUs in 1 system is easy, 4 CPUs is not) so really high perf machines are much easier to build. And is much easier to upgrade (pull the old one out, put the new one in).

+! on what Blago said, you can stack up to 11 GPUs in the same machine. it is less space/less electricity and even cheaper solution than having 11 CPUs(would need 6 machines)

Provided one's scene complexity fits into the available ram.
The most that can be had with quadro RTX is 48GB x 3 (144), am i wrong?
And that, at -for cards alone- some 5.5K dollars each.

I'd contend i could set up a 256gb Epyc (64/128. CPU and RAM only.) with the 5.5k, times three, to render with DR.

Not sure what's more difficult, once one takes into account all the cooling requirements and the infrastructure and actual load limitations.
Without hard numbers, i find the debate very academic (read: moot.), and way too open to partisanship.

I know out of core is coming for V-Ray GPU

          Best,

Afaik Out Of Core will probably cause a substantial lack in performance as we don't have PCI-E 9999 yet. )

OOC will allow to render bigger scenes, but at (much?) reduced speed.
It's a side-fix to the issue of lack of VRam in the first place.
And it adds to the cost of building the system, because now one needs to cater for the added system ram.
