  • Is it recommended not to use the system GPU for rendering?

    Hi,

I own 2x2080ti and 1x1080ti as system GPU. My impression is if I use the 1080ti for rendering too, than I get unwanted effects like crashes after standby or other effects. Or is it a wrong impression and I have an other basic problem, maybe driver or memory? Is it save to use the system GPU for rendering or is it better for the stability not to use it for rendering?

Im in the same boat. Sometimes when I render with the Display GPU 3Ds Max crashes and Im wondering if its my system or just a downside to using the extra GPU for rendering?

In general it's not a good idea to use the system GPU for rendering. V-Ray GPU aggressively uses all resources of the devices you allow it to use, so your UI or mouse can freeze as the OS will struggle to find time for drawing if V-Ray GPU is running.
Also if the system decides to do something with the GPU we have no control over how V-Ray is going to react. The GPU state must not change during render.
