  • Vray GPU with GTX and RTX

    Hi there.
I'm currently using a workstation with 1 Nvidia GTX 1070. I decided to buy a new card: Nvidia RTX 1070.
Now the question is: can the 2 cards work together with Vray GPU 5? I mean: by now I'm using the "CUDA" engine type; if I plug both cards together which engine should I use? Cuda or RTX? Does the GTX 1070 card work with the RTX engine, even if it has no RTX processors?

    Thanks for the help
    Cheers!

    Hi,

You can use your GTX 1070 with both RTX and CUDA engine, however without the RT Cores, our tests show that running the RTX engine produces poorer results compared to CUDA.
V-Ray 5 can work with mixed cards setup, so if you buy an RTX2070 you will be able to use both cards with either CUDA or RTX engine. You will have to see for yourself what combination suits you best.
If you run the RTX engine on a combination of RTX and pre-RTX gpus, it will use the RT cores on the GPUs that have them and automatically switch to CUDA cores on the GPUs in which RT cores are not present

    Cheers!
