  • Gpu vs cpu

    Hi all.

I was just testing the differences between CPU and GPU.

Attached are 2 images, both with the exact same settings in terms of materials and lights.

I'm just wondering which one is more accurate, as in which one would match reality closest if I had to set up the scene in the real world.
I am surprised that the IOR seems to be different between them which doesn't make any sense to me.

Could you send the scene to support@chaosgroup.com so we can take a look? Mention this thread in the e-mail along with your V-Ray and host platform versions.

isn’t refl/refr trace depth still cut at 5 by default in GPU?

I set the refraction/reflection trace depth to 30 on both, I'm not sure if GPU has an override that cancels this out in the material though, so could be.

gpu’s limit is always active (render settings).
cpu’s limit is off by default.

Where is the override located? It's not in Global switches as it is in Vray CPU.

I just had a look at the help document and it says it's not supported in Global Switches GPU, so how would you change the depth?

hermit.crab Is it really locked to 5 for GPU, that seems like a massive problem for accurate rendering?

I have sent the scene to Chaosgroup Support.

              Cheers.

                performance tab >> trace depth

Thanks, it now looks much closer to the CPU image, I wonder why the naming convention and the location for these settings are different from CPU to GPU, very confusing.

                  Thanks again.
