  • Vray gpu 2d displacement

    Hi Muhammed

    Since i'm working with 16 bits in My textures i have more free vram, how resolution parámeter works on 2d displacement with for example a stone wall from Cg axis textures???

    ​​​​​​In vray gpu 5.1 for sketchup it says for a bitmaps use the same resolution but if the resolution is 4k or 8k what value should i use???, 250 is by default, but what is enought for a very Nice displacement, and Also if i use a bigger resolution do You think vray gpu is going to take more vram?? Should i use 4000 instead off 250 by default if it is 4k bitmap??? i really like 2d displacement it offers for vray gpu a great tool!!!.

    Do You have an example On how this parámeter works with vray gpu.

    For example a stone wall using 250 by default and 4000 in another test using a bitmap texture.

    For me it works but i want to keep learning about this parámeter the resolution

    And Also should i Match the resolution that i'm using in the diffuse material slot or should i use the resolution from the displacement map ( kind of a bump map but with blur). I do not use displacement on the material editor, i use the modifier.

    Do You think 2d displacement takes less vram than 3d displacement???

    I'm rendering in 5k resolution so datails are important

      Hi Luis,

      Even if you are rendering in 5k Res. it doesn't necessarily mean you need 4k or 8k textures for displacement
      You could do a simple test run between 250 and any higher number.. if there is a visual difference, you can then decide if this is worth or not
      I mostly use 3D displacement for my work, and depending if the object is close to the camera or not I would decide on the kind of displacement resolution I will use
      Whenever I get a chance I will show you an example
