  • i thought i asked before but couldn't find - bucket vs progressive GPU

it takes a lot longer for me to render with buckets as is recommended for multiple video cards. for example 11min on a bucket render 3.5min on progressive. i'm fairly new to vray and don't know all the tech stuff, but what's the reason to recommend buckets on multi GPU and why is it a longer render time? as far as i can see, the noise is the same on both ways of rendering. just the time is different. thanks.

    Hello s_gru

If you have 2 to 3 GPUs it is fine to use progressive mode, we are in process of changing the documentation for that.
For 4 GPUs or more, bucket will offer better GPU utilization across all GPUs. Another use of bucket mode is Distributed Rendering as it uses less network bandwidth

On another note, if you are using 3Ds Max bucket mode will give a cleaner result than progressive and you will be able to use lower sampling settings. We are working on improving the speed of bucket mode at the moment
