  • No NV link on 40 series Nvidia cards?

I just got word on this from a youtube channel...can anyone shed any light on this? Nvidia abandoning linking cards and sharing memory? Or is there something else Im not aware of?...One card per rig now? Multiple cards was the big draw to render using GPU...

Yes they state it on their website aswell - none of the launched 40xx series cards have NVLink Sadly.

    https://www.nvidia.com/da-dk/geforce...cards/compare/

I think they might save the NVLINK for the "Quadro" card versions maybe for the replacement coming down the road to the RTX A5000/A6000 or maybe we will see a 4090 TI with 48gb as rumored in 2023.

Personally I was expecting to upgrade and get two 4090 with nvlink but that is not possible for now. So will have to wait some months and see what to do!

Exactly. No one is really talking about this properly yet. But the fact that they would deny us this is really telling how little they know their target audience or how little they care.
Was holding off on purchasing dual 3090s. What a shame

They removed nvlink from the 4000 series to be sure 4000 wont be used by professionnal as they can't extand the max 24Go VRAM.
They try to protect the A5000, A6000 and the future RTX 6000 (with 48Go of VRAM AND Nvlink) for professionnal usage (and professionnal price also).
It's all about marketing and needs.

3090 with 24 Gb of vram, nvlink and priced below 2k$ was a very unusual product indeed. you can not expect that would happen every generation.

Any word from someone at Chaos Group if Vray will focus on Nvidia over AMD GPUs going forward?

V-Ray GPU runs exclusively on Nvidia GPUs at the moment and makes use of dedicated ray tracing hardware in the recent Turing, Ampere and Ada GPUs. We have no plans on supporting AMD GPUs any time soon. OpenCL technology is abandoned by AMD and doesn't meet our requirements, it was dropped with V-Ray Next.

About NVLink, we will share the feedback in this threat with Nvidia. I have been using NVlink myself since Titan RTX in 2018, memory pooling was helpful to me in Print.

This doesn't affect using multiple cards per machine, You can run as many GPUs in your machine. V-Ray GPU will recognize all your GPUs

The article is incorrect about NVlink on Professional GPUs, FYI this information about Ada RTX 6000 is not revealed yet. We don't know if it will have NVlink or not

You have access to a knowledge that we, poor humans, do not have access to .

Ah ok, so its just the memory sharing (still a biggy) that is affected by the NV link change.

Apparently there is no NVlink anymore on the Pro series as well. From what I garnered they want to use the PCIe 5 as a replacement?

No, memory pooling is not possible on the Pro cards. there is no replacement

Yep NVlink is dead on Ada Lovelace.
