  • Impact HAGS - Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling on GPU RTX performance

I ran some V-Ray benchmarks yesterday and I noticed with RTX it makes a big difference if HAGS is off while with CUDA the difference seems pretty minimal.

Just wondered if this is expected behaviour since it's quite a big difference, with HAGS off rendering is faster than if HAGS is turned on. I've normally HAGS enabled because some other software I use performs better if I've it on.

Hey OzBoz And thanks for the report,

We investigated this internally and shared with Nvidia, our conclusion is that the difference in score is normal and expected with this test scene. Other scenes show a smaller margin or no margin at all
I also tried with our new Benchmark 6 as well as Cinebench 2024 and Octane Bench, the margin is small.
We recommend enabling HA GPU Scheduling for V-Ray GPU for rendering with V-Ray GPU as it allows V-Ray GPU to access more of the VRAM on rendering devices, meaning it reduces the amount of GPU memory WDDM mode reserves on your GPUs

    Best,

      Hi Muhammed_Hamed,

Thanks for getting back to me! I'd always like to know what's most optimal in a situation for the hardware I use.

I actually reinstalled Windows from scratch past weekend and saw HAGS was currently also on by default after installation. I also tried the KeyShot Viewer benchmark and it also had a minimal difference, but that benchmark is not really suited for fast GPUs.

Again, thanks for the research and feedback!

      Kind regards,

      Oscar
